Purple Bougainvillea Progression

Starting a thread for this bougie I picked up at a landscape nursery back in 2014. A little trunk movement, a bit of flare at the base, and wholesale pricing - I'm in!

Cut back most of the useless stuff that fall:

I wasn't ready to make hard decisions about the trunk line yet, so it sat around for a while. Spring 2015:





Got its first hard cut:

Got around to it again in summer 2015.

Pretty major root reduction . . .

. . . and into a tub.

Since then, for the last year, it's gone through a cycle or two of growing out and cutting back.

Another round of root work today. I went beyond this, but forgot to take another picture.

I chose the blue one.

In order to fit it in the pot without removing too much root, I had to compromise a bit on angle and front. Next time around I expect it to be a bit more like this:



I also did a little pruning and wired down the first branch.

I'm going to let those lowest couple of branches run to put on some size, and I'll pick a new leader at the top once it's settled and I've had time to stare at it for a while.
