Guys,

yesterday afternoon I decided to go for a walk on the hill my house is situated to go and look at stuff I want to dig(BIG wild Olives) come spring(almost there) and as I headed down to the riverbank I entered a thicket of African hackberry. After looking around at some potential hackberry I saw this tree, it was cut down in ages past for some obscure reason, and then naturally died back to the roots except for two live veins on opposite ends of the trunk. I literally pushed it over and pulled it out of the soft soil with enough(I hope) roots to pull it through and headed on home. I gave it to the missus as I already had my eye on another tree and do not like carving as much as her.

anyway enough story, time to show and tell:

Ja Nee Boet, you're a lucky man. I can just imagine what my wife would say if I return from the wild, with a tree I dug for her.... It takes a special woman to love a man for his tree hunting/gathering skills.....:p
Anyway its a good one. Hope it pulls through. Lots of carving on that. Not sure what an African hackberry is.....celtis...? That doesn't look like Africana of hoe....?

Looks large Herman.

Its about 40cm diameter at its widest on the base, trunk is about 10cm. atm its a bit more than a meter from base to the big cut on top.
yes its HUGE! the one I'm digging this weekend or the one after is bigger :) yet not as tall

best regards
Herman

looks like a gnarly one if it pulls through, I c some nice pines in the background

Really like the "twist/fold" in the trunk that you can see in the 3rd picture.
Looks like lots of fun in that one. Enjoy.
