JBP pruned, pulled and wired

Haven't you posted this image 50x in the last 6 weeks as the poster child of how everyone should be wiring? Tips up and all. You know what I meant, it is current teaching, and you're obviously demonstrating it here. SMH.

Brian, on my tree you posted, the lowest branches were wired in June. So, over the summer, the summer candles have come in. And they're growing upright.

I wired the top 3/4 of the tree in November. Above the first layer, I pretty much have them horizontal, but the wire fishhook holds them up.

At the apex, yes, they are more vertical.

A year from now, it will appear that all the tips will be "up".

This picture shows what they looked like back in June. I wired right after I decandled. You can see my little fishhooks under the needles supporting them.

By the way, all of the needles on this picture of the close up of the branch have been pulled. The needles on the full picture you posted are the needles that came in after decandling.

Thanks Adair, seen that one too, and I am fully aware of how it works. Just wish I had time to get to mine.

Much better!

Did you learn something from the experience?

Ok, next:

I notice you tend to end your wires with the cut end pointing down. Below the branch. I think it looks cleaner to have them pointing up. After all, we want the undersides of the branch pads to be clean, with no foliage under the branch. And a piece of wire sticking down catches the eye. Curl it up, and it's less noticeable.

Wire the tips using 16 gauge wire for JBP. 18 gauge is usually too small. 14 gauge is ok, but 12 is just too big to do a nice job. This was one of the things I didn't understand. I'd be wiring out the branch, and I would take heavy wire all the way out to the tip. Yes, you need to extend heavy wire out a bit (one and a half turns), then curl it up. Place your thinner wire alongside the one and a half turns to go out to the tip. Then, make a fishhook turn at the end, supporting the needles on the end underneath them to prevent them from pointing down.

It'll come. Practice, practice, practice!

I followed the wiring diagram sheets that have been posted and they helped alot. I think Ill need to do more wiring for it to sink in more because......

Now that you've improved the bottom wiring, want to replace the wiring up top?

I posted this picture of one of my White Pines on another thread, but you might not have seen it. (Sorry, BVF if my posting the same pic in two threads annoys you).

The places where you see two wired, the heavy wire provides the anchor. I didn't double up any wires to gain more bending holding power. Just to provide an anchor.
