Prunus Incisa "Kojo-no-mai" - Design Advice

Those two nearly parallel trunk/branches will need to be simplified. Making that cut will go a long way in the design at this phase, and may be all the tree needs.
I know, I am torn about which one to eliminate, I think that I will keep the middle one because it seems a bit more curvy to me and get rid of the outside one.

Now I am worried about doing too much to the tree all at once, so probably it's the move for next year?
 
Almost a month later, the tree is really pushing new growth all over.

Another update, I was gone for a few days and even tho the tree was watered every two days we had a massive heat wave and I came back to this:

Luckily there was some life still in the tree, I placed it in the shade and watered it well and 10 days later it looks like this:

(For some reason I cannot upload a photo)
 
There are some new shoots coming from the base, still don't know what to do with it. For now I am letting it recover from its near death experience.
