I apologize if this has been asked and answered before, but I found nothing using the search function.

Is there a central repository of all of the various progressions threads posted by the more experienced members? I run across them from time to time, and they are a wonderful resource for someone just starting out in helping visualize the potential in source material and what steps are needed to progress toward various styles.

Thanks for any help, and for all of the information so far!

One approach is to hit that manify glass icon -upper right

Enter “progression” into search bar

click -by titles only

....or, know people who post quality progressions, and search their name...

such as..markyscott...rather than say...TN_Jim:eek::eek::eek:

-not to be confused with
TN Jim....who actually knows his shit;):cool:

Experienced members have the tendency to use their skills: they pick the best (sometimes very expensive) stock plants.
I think for beginners especially, it might be better to see how others of the same level do it.
There's a great deal to learn from experts, don't get me wrong! But they're out there refining trees while some of us rookies still are planting seeds or working on primary branches. I made the mistake to do refinement techniques on trees that aren't close to refinement, and the results suck. It's easy to misinterpret things sometimes.

Maybe you can search by member? Vance wood, Walter pall, Adair M and some others have progression threads going on which are updated annually or just once as a giant whole progression.

@TN_Jim
Thanks! I hadn’t notice the “by titles only” option.

That’s a good point regarding what I’m working with versus those experts. I will calibrate accordingly.

@Wires_Guy_wires brings up an excellent point. I too have learned the hard way -applying techniques often associated with refinement to trees that have not had the most basic primary development honed yet.

For this reason I could argue with myself that the most beneficial threads are from folks not in the highest echelon of technique, but rather what comes forth from good questions and quality answers in threads created by folks not on that higher level....this unfortunately makes searching more of needle in haystack, because you never know the potential enlightenment you may stumble upon in seemingly the most unlikely of places.

I had some mixed feelings about posting that. Because it's something I believe we all went through, but nobody wants to admit it.

I'm starting to get to the point where I understand what I did wrong and why I did so. I honestly want my failures to be a lesson for others, this means I'll be posting sticks in pots for the next couple of years.

However, the amount of failure is decreasing steadily. I'll get there some day, and the trees will follow. No rush.
