So I am fairly new at bonsai and this forum, I started about a year and a half ago getting into bonsai. So I know there are a lot of people in it for way longer, but I would like to see your favorite in your collection and maybe how long you have had it. I will throw mine in there but it will not hold a candle to some, but it’s my first and my baby. And thanks to all the info I have received and learned from this site, you guys have been very helpful and I like the critics because it helps me learn more. Hopefully I will have a collection and trees like some of you one day. Thanks and I can’t wait to see what you guys have. So I will start, this is mine a Shindeshojo maple. 8488B936-74C6-4D9F-AADC-7582EA7AE4A8.jpeg

I found it like that at a landscape company for $7 just today. Creative hunting pays off some times

Yes is does and it also helps when the price is cheap. Here’s another favorite that needs time to fill in but it was free, a guy threw it in the the mix when I bought 2 other trees. This one took damage from lightning. 775C375F-DF95-4FFB-9F07-EC82259FDFB9.jpeg

When it is well rooted I would chop it just above the scar and hope it back buds lower. Next apring when buds start to show would be great time

You can test this on the expendable part, tree seen above -
take a knife and choose a spot where you would like a bud and eventually
a branch.
Press blade into cambium and barely touch the inner wood [ diagram calls
it - anual rings ]

A bud is supposed to form near the cut.
Good Day

Wow didn’t know about that, thanks I will definitely try that. This tree is experimental anyway, it’s not like I’m losing any money on it but I don’t want it to die either.

Favorite...I have a top five list. Let's see if I can cut it to less. In no particular order...
Bougainvillea who...sulked at a few colder nights...did the two step. Recovering and leafing out. Forgot it one night outside while I was dealing with sick family members.

The 10" Bald Cypress...

Chi chi Ginkgo...4" base/nebari

There...shortened the list by two. ?

Been in the hobby just shy of 5 years...have a total of 22 including projects. I wish to enjoy the hobby...along with other hobbies and a family at home. My mental headcount will not go over 25.

Here’s mine, Itoigawa Juniper from Evergreen Gardenworks. It’s not the biggest or best, or even a standout in the garden, but I dig it. I dig the foliage color and texture, the trunk movement, the Jins and Sharis and the character in the base. Simple, but not too simple. 21” tall. One day, I’ll find just the right pot, this is a Sara Rayner. As purchased in 2011, and in 2018:
