At last I have found a worthy hornbeam to dig and am seeking advice from those experienced on soil type and post-collection treatment. I am an experienced collector and long term bonsaist but not so much with deciduous.
I've collected 2 hornbeam last year. 1 hops hornbeam and 1 American hornbeam. I just washed them off and put them in collanders with D.E for soil. Put them out in the sun right away. They both lived and we're doing fine before winter. One thing though. Neither sprouted out of the top cut so maybe cut it a little tall. They both seem very tough but not exactly balls of fire their first year.
