Figured I would start a thread for this one.
Collected by Vince Lee of Satoyama Bonsai

Need to hunt down a pot for this pondy for spring.

Now that is a seriously awesome pondo!!!

I will be watching this one 😎

black pando podcast has an episode with the collector. It's really interesting - hikes up to 14 miles on a day to get trees, collects a pretty huge number and leaves them at a lot in Colorado and has a really interesting background.

Anyone know how to contact Vince outside of his Instagram?

He also has waded through creeks neck deep in cold mountain water to collect trees, and repelled down cliffs for trees. I listened to that podcast, it doesn't go as in depth as he has with me...dude is insane. He and his helpers carried out this 8 ft pondy on foot if that says much...it is humongous. The tub the tree is in is probably 5 ft wide...bigger than the pallet under it.

He should reply to pms via IG, he was pretty busy the last week or so traveling. I hung out with him all day last Tuesday. If IG doesn't work, pm me in a few days and I'll check and see if he's OK with me tossing you his personal #.

Yeah this Satoyama dude is a legend, the stuff he is collecting is right up there with Randy Knight and the Backcountry Boys in my opinion.

If he has a Colorado property maybe I can save him the trouble of taking one of those trees back to Kentucky 🤣

Check out the podcast. Was a Buddhist monk and just had wild stories. it seriously sounds like he is hauling out 6-8 foot trees on foot over like 10-20 miles.

You’ll be able to reduce the rootball significantly. I repotted about 20 of his raw trees last year and all of them had a lot of reduction space, even if you’re conservative.
