Plant Growth Regulators for Bonsai Experimental Trial

I feel like I noticed a difference on my beautyberry - Koji Hiramatsu had mentioned b nine specifically for this species - but I don’t really know for sure. I’ll do it again, 1 tbsp of b nine per gallon of water

I use phyton 35 fungicide (been using 25 for past couple of years, changing this year but I think it’s mostly the same) and I did notice they said b nine should not be applied with 7 days of phyton application. Thought it worth noting as I imagine it’s the same for other fungicides, at least copper based ones.

fwiw knowledgeable pruning and spring leaf/growth bud pinching (manual processes) looks to me to produce exponentially better results in both reducing leaf size and increasing ramification. The maple below has had a spring leaf/bud pinching regimen for decades.

No doubt about punching being better for internode size, but maybe the best use of these is not for that. If these results are predictable and stable across years, it could dramatically speed up the development of lower branches while building a trunk.

It's always the lowest branches that take the to develop properly. The apex and upper branches will be removed or hard pruned several times before the lower branches are at a proper thickness

Also, this might be helpful for redistricting energy in refined trees with weak lower branches and vigorous apices. It would help balance the growth out without requiring pinching or otherwise removing energy from the tree

While not of much more use than the ol' thumbs up, I want to express my gratitude for you sharing.

Thank you.
