Starting a thread to share all of my japanese maple propagation projects

Crop of Ibo Nishiki cuttings taken in May of this year. The parent plant was a cutting purchased from Brent at Evergreen Garden works.


I had more that rooted last year, but i mistakenly used a flat that didn’t have draining holes, so most cuttings died over winter due to a lot of rain. Here are a few that made it from last year.





I’ve got 3 trays of Nishiki Gawa that rooted this year about 95 rooted cuttings total.

When can you put a cutting in full sun?

In general i never recommend full sun for japanese maples at any stage of development except for the first part of spring. Dappled sun is usually preferred.
They certainly need protection from wind during the hot summer months

Just added some more Nishiki gawa stock on my website. They’re all putting out a nice strong flush before dormancy this year.



Also added a few Ibo Nishiki rooted cuttings. I know I’ve had quite a few people waiting on those so if you want one for this year now is the chance

Awww I missed em. Managed to snag an Ibo Nishiki recently though! All of my cuttings from you are doing great! That long one coming forward is a nishikigawa that’s doubled in size since it showed up a month or so ago.
