picea help

Work your way from the outside in and keep all the foliage close to the trunk. Proper backbudding is hard to direct in spruces.
I think forsoothe is trying to say something like that, but I'm no Latin interpreter.

Meaning that he doesn't like working with piceas? Or no matter what's done with this tree, its wrong?

May have to do with what looks like all your little branching twigs being snipped already.

Once it won't move, it's a trunk, and a tree can only have so many trunks.

Cut heavy stuff, leave fine stuff.

FIrst, that is a nice piece of nursery stock. I see several options in there. Definitely could be a nice tree in the future.

The question was "how to proceed".

It is your tree, you, and nobody else, needs to decide what you want.

First get a piece of paper, and a No 2 pencil, and an eraser. Check that, get a whole ream of paper.

First draw the trunk and the major branches. Don't bother drawing the needles. Just the trunk line, and the branches that ARE ACTUALLY THERE. You would be surprised how often people are asked to draw a tree, and they edit in or leave out branches so that the end product is nothing like the real tree in front of them.

Now take the eraser, and erase branches in an effort to make it look like a tree.

Repeat, each time you repeat, remove different branches. Rotate the tree as you try other views.

I'm not trying to be a jerk, if you take the time for this exercise, you will find that after the 3rd or 4th drawing you will probably see a design you like that is possible with the actual tree in front of you.

If you are good with photo editor programs, you can do this on a laptop or tablet without using paper.

Thank you. For the last 30 years I've collected and nurtured maples and other deciduous trees turning them into bonsais. Its only the last two to three years that I've dabbled with conifers and the like. Killed quite a few thinking that they react the same once cut. I've been researching the how todos and quickly learning that they're different animals all together. Thanks again for the advice.
