This article was noted in an email this morning from the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum. It's pretty good and looks to me to have been pitched by Bonsai Mirai. A lot of interesting insight, such as the comparison to Noh plays and actors...the paywall on the NYT site can be a bitch though. I got around it with this link. Your mileage may vary though...

My favorite part of the article, amongst many, was the story of the Domoto Maple. Not only is it really fun to work on, it always gives me a flash back in history each time I see it.

Yet there’s a lot more to the Domoto family story then that, including introducing a number of Satsuki to the US in an earlier generation…. but that’s another story.
