Nothofagus Antarctica

These plants have intrigued me for some time, but I am trying to expand primarily into zone 4 to zone 6 plants. I already have too many zone 7 plants that need extra protection during winters like this past one.
As leo explained in his earlier post in this thread, it’s prob easier to maintain this species in a more northern climate. Winter protection is much easier/doable than summer protection for me. But everyone has different situations going on. See his explanation above

Have you communicated this with the seller, @LAS ?
They might do more than just give you tots and pears.
It’s tough because 1- it’s not their fault and 2- they went out of their way to pick 2 nice ones out for me. So I’m not going to hold them to anything. Nice people. I’m gonna try and make these work

Does anybody here know of a good source in the US?

I ordered from forest farm. But, the shipping is the issue. I would wait til middle of september to order.

They have them but shipping by air is more than twice the price of the plant itself.

Now is not the time to buy from Forrest Farm, unless you can pick up in person. Wait until the fall when they go back to ground shipping. It's still high, but not sky high.

Thanks, that is the smart way to do it.

A year has passed and I was able to save one of the two trees. Starting to get some movement. But, clearly needs to grow out a lot. IMG_1304.pngIMG_1305.png
