Newbies - want to share your trees?

Does these count?
First picture is my nursery area. Oaks, maples, willows, Osage oranges and lots more.
Second picture is my Japanese maple collection. Shishigashiras, deshojos, Lima gold, tamukeyama, summer gold, atropurpureum
Third picture is bald cypresses and trident maples on their way back to the nursery area.
Fourth picture is a juniper chinensis
Fifth picture is hornbeams, a liquidambar, a honey suckle collected this year and an olive and a random maple group.
The sixth is a muscadine
Good starter collection.

Gosh, you live in Charlotte and haven’t got an azalea yet? 😉.

Found this cheap juniper at a local DIY center.

And inspired by Peter Chan, I thought I'd have first attempt at the wiring.

Nice work on your first wiring. 👍
That’s an interesting nursery can. Looks a little like a small waste paper basket.

@Clorgian ,

almost all plants down here are from seed [ pot is home-made ]
Good Day

More info on that little mame pot please!!! Is it clay? How is drainage done? Are you a potter? Do you have other work? Do you have more of those and do you sell them?

Your little JBP is cute as well but I really like that pot!

Those are great mate, they grow fast and can take abuse, much better invest in those kind of trees than malsais to start in my opinion

Longtime lurker, first time posting but always learning. Couple of before and after shots on a Alberta spruce that was picked up for $7 at a local Big Box Nursery. I'm not really a fan of the Alberta spruce, especially for Bonsai, but at that price I figured it was good practice.

Welcome Aboard BN @DraytonSawyer !

Alberta Spruce is as good a place to start with.

Here’s a Chinese elm I repotted today. It was living in regular potting soil and desperately needed to get into some bonsai soil. Used a Boon mix and a Bob Hunter pot. After it recovers and has its first complete flush of growth hardened off (it’s still budding like crazy all over the place), I’ll give it a haircut.

Love that pot

I got this cotoneaster dammeri lowfast about 2 months ago from a nursery. It was pretty scrawny and in one of those little 2”x2” pots so I replanted it into a larger training pot. I know the soil isn’t great but it does have inorganic material in it and drains very well so I’m not too concerned at the moment.

The tree is vigorous and sending out a lot of new leaves. Is there anything I should be doing at this point or just let it grow for a season and start pruning/wiring next season? This is my first and only cotoneaster so not really sure what my final plan is with it at this point.
Also, is it pronounced “cotton-Easter” or “cotony-aster”, LOL. I’ve heard both.

3 of the pics are how it currently looks, 1 is from about a month ago.

Here is my first complete wiring of a pre-bonsai I did on my own. I started to try and wire it back in 2019 when I got it, but made a bunch of mistakes, including ripping the top off (twice). I let it heal and grow until a couple weeks ago. I worked out the apex and am beginning to chase the growth back on the lower mains:

Long way to go still, but hopefully I can work it into something worthwhile.

Still, super cool tree!!!

I was thinking whether to burn these or keep them, wild benjaminas harvested from walls around the house. Gotta keep an eye on these or their roots will destroy everything. I'll keep a couple for now.
