Hi Clorgan! I think I posted this earlier in this thread, maybe mid summer. I let it grow all year and get really strong. I kept it in my greenhouse and got lots of aerial roots (the moss near the base is to keep some of them wet. I can and should remove that now). Anyhow, when I brought it in for the winter I defoliate it to try and get some ramification. Here it is back in leaf. I plan to repot it once it’s a full strength again, and change the planting angle my rotating it 20-39 degrees counterclockwise so I can make the long section of trunk not perfectly straight up. Thoughts?Any newbies want to share? I'm currently stuck on day 10/14 of isolation - going CRAZYYYY. Would love to see what you're working on!
I've got a ton of trees almost all still in nursery pots as I just got started and have been slow to try to repot. I did slip pot a few as they were clearly in too small of a pot.Any newbies want to share? I'm currently stuck on day 10/14 of isolation - going CRAZYYYY. Would love to see what you're working on!
I like it! Thanks for sharing Really like the general shape, the only thing I'm not sure about is that straight second section of the trunk. Not sure if you'd had any thoughts on that?Hi Clorgan! Thanks for sharing! Looks like you've got some great potential there, will definitely be a busy spring for you keep us posted!I've got a ton of trees almost all still in nursery pots as I just got started and have been slow to try to repot. Let's see how many I can add here. Most have been are lightly cleaned up fed. Digging to find a front and waiting for the right time to either heavily prune or repot.
I don't have group photos unfortunately so here is my twisty CBS, Canadian Hemlock, Dogwood, 5 tree group I was given by a nursery owner, another twisty CBS, my first heavy prune and wire or a half dead laceleaf that I really hope survives, and finally my big reject baldy that I chopped and threw in the ground. I've also got some other stuff not pictured, two or three shimpaku, 2 Wakebisu. Next spring is going to be a busy one for sure
How are your littles guys doing now, I just had 4 baby wisterias sprout today and I am just full of joy.Oh, wow. So, I’m also a COVID newbie, but I’m super new.... here are my wisteria seeds that were planted on the 10th.
Yep, Fukien Tea.I picked this up today on discount from a big box store... kinda ratty hope it survives.. I’m like 99% sure it’s a Fukien tea but I’ve never seen one in real life and was just labeled “bonsai”
I suck at broadleaf ID's, but these look a bit like Ilex crenata and Buxus sempervivens.Hello, I'm totally new to the world of bonsai; I've been gifted these two species, but I have no information about what they are.
Could someone help me identify them so I can look for informations on how to care for them?
Thank you
I'd say you're a noob if you're still arguing the relevance or Easter red cedar as viable bonsai material those were my first 5 contributions to the burn pile. I'm 3 years in and quickly found I'd be better off starting from seed. I'll probably post my contributions to this thread tomorrow if I remember since it's already dark hereI think "noob" I think 1 year or less. Maybe 2 depending on your exposure to the hobby.
I don't consider myself a noob, I consider myself and "beginner "..... past the stage of noob, able to walk in a garden center and pass trees up, not feel compelled to buy something. Willing to still learn and accept criticism and advice without taking it personally.
I think 1. Noob 2. Beginner 3. Intermediate 4. Advanced 5. Elite 6. Smoke (lol just all in good fun)
But I know for sure @Wires_Guy_wires is definitely not a noob lol
I can recommend opening a separate thread about them, or in the ID request page. You'll probably get more answers there.Thank you for your help, sadly I did not identify what they are yet, the closest relatives seem to be @Wires_Guy_wires suggestion of Ilex and Buxus;
I'll start studying those two species, hoping that their care is not too specific on them, should the id be wrong
thank you
