New term for American bonsai

Lol I got three replies!!!! I am so happy..... I was actually just craving attention..... like the class clown.
I love you guys and I like the fact that you have different opinions. The "you missed a great chance to shut up" shut down made me laugh so hard I almost fell out of the chair.
Glad to see people still have a passion for bonsai.... sadly when I use the Korean word for bonsai most Korean kids don't know what I am talking about..... sad sad world.

Ok now continue fighting..... I have my glasses on and am armed with a beer.

As one of the blind guys, I wonder if my suggestion that you ignore this thread could be heard over the din of the smug, superior whining.
I am mildly deaf dontcha know rockm? I was just teasing as usual..

I don’t understand this comment. This is relevant for the thread topic unlike other discussions here. Yes, we have different opinions. So what? So do you. I think you just lost a great chance to shut up, that’s what I think.
I don't understand your inability to understand my comment, plus you almost killed me from laughter with "you missed a great chance to shut up"..... can I steal that? Pleaseeeeee I want to steal that it seriously cracked me up.....I actually FELT shut down.

Horseshit Hai

Do some research before you start pontificating. Specifically the Kamakura period in Japan and bonsai. It makes no difference whether the practice of dwarfing trees in containers started in south Asia. The Japanese refined it into what is generally thought of as "bonsai" today. It has over 500 years of history in Japan and before that in China and possibly (it's unproven) south Asia.

I feel sorry for you. Hai Believe you like. Hai You don't know what you say, buyt what to act like all knowing. Hai Very common for American style. Hai

What does the word "bonsai" actually do as far as defining the art form for anyone? Every time I show someone a bonsai and it is not a juniper they tell me it is not a bonsai. If I show someone an apple they know it is an apple no matter the variety.

Why do the most chickenshit threads always have a ton of comments but when someone posts something that actually has some merit or real information about creating or keeping Bonsai there are very little comments? Is this site turning into Facebook for Bonsai?

I appreciate the offer, but I will pass. I’m not posting that tree or anything else as a means to gain popularity, contrary to the belief of others. I have no doubt that thread will become a lot more popular regardless of my intentions, in due time.

Then why post at all. Just keep all your work to yourself and just be popular with yourself..

come on.....I buy that no more than you do.....;)

The meanings of words change over time. Also, words from other languages come into common use. "Cigarette", "cafe' ", "taco" , "burrito", etc., are foreign words that have come into common usage here in American and elsewhere. Old fashioned pizza in , say , in 1920's Italy is NOT the pizza we know here now. I would think "bonsai" would be in that category. Here in America, "bonsai" could just mean a type of art that ORIGINATED in Japan. What we call bonsai is the way we do it. Thailand could use the same word but mean whatever it means to THEM.

Just to be fair...... only you guys call that stuff pizza..... the rest of the world calls it oily bread lol

Change the name? Give me a break. What we do is cut branches of plants so it looks like a tree and cut roots so they fit in small pots for a long time. That's already got a name. That's all we do. Talk of ''Japanese rules'', ''American styles'', ''Western aesthetics'' etc., is a load of horse shit. It has nothing to do with the craft. The fact that the question is even being asked is proof that some people has too much time on their hands and like to live in pretence.
This subject is complete nonsense.

Or maybe I’m just lazy in some respects. It’s a real easy way to keep track of my trees. Do you know how much it sucks scrolling through 45,000+ pics to find an old one of a tree I want to compare? Could it be I occasionally want criticism or pointers on a problem I am trying to fix? Maybe it is something else.

Calling all of this contemplation over the value of approaches to bonsai and the end result horshit kind of reveals where you may be in the art.

Yep Dereck, the first one to like it. You guys are like a broken record. Do you guys know what a dog pecker gnat is? Thats what both of you are. Just buzzing around me in sincere adoration.

You know you can separate your photos into folders on your hard drive. And you can can create sub folders in each folder for specific things you have done to the tree. I think you just like being dramatic, like all the players in the SCOTUS hearing.

Besides I offered to give you some criticism on your maple tree. Scared?
