Just got this guy in today:) I saw this tree for sale and tried to walk away from it, but, it just kept calling me back so I pulled the trigger and made the purchase! It's 20-25 years old..... Fed Ex did manage to crack the pot so I'll need to re-pot it but other than that I'm very happy with the tree. Here's a few pics......

Looks like it's got some potential. Should be able to get a few trees from air layering .

An EBAY S-curve purchase?
I bought one too and layered off several sections; you may have 5 different trees after all.

That knife trade with @Don Blackmond would have got you a better tree...

Even if it was his worst.

Make the trade.

Looking at the pics before reading I thought I saw three trees there also. The reverse taper thing kills it for me. I think you should think about breaking it up and have several trees, the bottom one will have crazy taper one day. Id be breakin' out my sharp layering knife, plastic, and media to fill it. A little rooting powder dusted on and soon your showing us the "new trees". Anyway, just an idea.

This tree it may have its issues which may not make it the best bonsai, as others have pointed out, but it makes me think back to this video which others posted recently.

I would just personally not do normal bonsai things with it. I'd think completely outside the box, and think very long and hard (insert dirty joke) about what to do with it for the future to make it more UNLIKE bonsai and more fairy tale.
But thats just a wild idea.

Yea you know I don't really care about what anybody else thinks about this tree because I personally love it and that's why I bought it! To me, it reminds me of a crazy Tarzan jungle tree that I have nicknamed the Boogieman:)

I think we spoke about that on your lava rock carving thread. Yeah, I mean its good to post and get opinions about possibilities. Theres nothing wrong with that, although of course those opinions can be conveyed in different manners, as you have very much experienced so far, I see! But its down to you, so you can do whatever you like.

Personally, for this one tree, I like the Tarzan look more than anything else.

I understand that you like it as is, I get it: you're too new to this to understand. But, if you stick to this hobby you will thank yourself later if you follow Carp's advice and chop at first left branch. It will greatly improve the tree and you can even airlayer the top if you want.

Yea my taste may change in the coming months but right now this tree won't be getting modified because I just root trimmed and re-potted it last Saturday.
