Hello, this is my first spring into the hobby so I went out and bought myself an orange dream maple with plans to turn it into a bonsai and I have a few questions.

First off, is there a graft on it? I'll have pictures below of where I think there might be one.

If so, if I were to take cuttings for propagation, would they be able to stand on their own roots?

And thirdly, if anyone has any experiences with this cultivar they'd like to share then i'd love to read them. Especially if anyone has experience propagating from cuttings, what method/rooting medium you use and such.

It's almost certainly on a graft, unless you paid more than usual for it and / or bought it from somewhere that specifically sells cuttings or layers. I haven't taken a cutting, but I did air layer my orange dream and it was an easy one to get to root. It still seems strong, after a slow first year on its own roots, growing a little more vigorously in it's 2rd spring after separation in fall 3 years ago.
