I can't say that the tree was packaged poorly. The soil still had some moisture in it. But it was during the real heat wave. I was never offered any options in terms of shipping method. Anyway it's all water under the bridge. Just wanted to vent, so thanks everyone, your input is much appreciated!!

8 days is a long time without fresh water/air. Without proper study, who knows how much water a tree can take up when heated in a box, much less when in shock over the weekend.

Tony, depending on where you are in NY, taking a day trip up to New England Bonsai should be something to consider. The nursery is currently up for sale, but they have always had stock similar to the pine for sale and they may yet have some left to sell. Give them a call or shoot them an email...and stay away from ebay for buying trees unless you're buying from a seller who knows how to type and has been positively vetted here.

Insurance would never pay out on something like this anyway. If the item is fragile enough to be damaged from anything less than the entire box being run over by a dump truck you can bet they will disclaim responsibility.
