I've been actively ignoring coniferous trees...basically for ever. Just never had an interest in them...don't even know why. All I really knew was, there's pines..and others.
Even more bizarre everything changed almost overnight...a few weeks ago. Out of the blue I started looking at them with different eyes.
Now I find them interesting enough to want to start bonsai them...but that is easier said than done for me, and i've got a lot of catching up to do.
Best place I know for that, is right here.
I'll buy some small trees from nurseries as I go...as I prefer to start them from scratch.
Luckily, my neighbor has a selection of big coniferous trees on his property. I can get cuttings and do air layering there. He don't know the names of the different ones...and i'm hopeless at this stage.
Starting now...Going forward I would appreciate your help in identifying trees I find interesting. I'll put up photos here and i'm sure they will be named. If more photos is needed plz ask...i'm happy to oblige.
Thank you in advance.

Think its a Juniper. The foliage has a blueish colour. Still has an old dried up cone attached.

Notice the little flower....?

I suspect both those are cypress of some sort. We have the blue foliage type as a windbreak between our place and the neighbour.
Thought the could be one of the Leylandii hybrids, which are very popular as quick growing wind break trees over here, but when I search I only find green or golden Leylandii cultivars.
Whatever it is, it self seeds readily here but seedlings do not seem to transplant easily. Also quite difficult to manage as a bonsai so I'd look elsewhere for bonsai starters.
