It was a very thoughtful presentation. It really codified for me a lot of the things that Nao and I have discussed regarding his approach to pottery.

"Master tradition and then you innovate."
This, plus the"intent" philosophy. Too many new potters begin with extremely flashy designs/glazes.

I've been poking a friend to try making me a pot - I think the glazes she normally uses would work well.

Her "curvy lady" mugs are always a fun one 😂

For those who haven’t seen it yet, Nao gave a two hour online presentation on bonsai pots.
See it here
I loved this presentation from the very beginning where you were defending molded pottery. I have heard many local ceramists putting down molds, and it does indeed take a lot of skill! Very informative, I learned so much!

Molds are tools, same as pottery wheels, hand tools, etc. putting down molds is a pretty weird attitude imo. Some things you simply cannot make efficiently and repeatedly without them. It makes me wonder if these types of potters would poopoo carving porcelain in a bone dry state cause i can tell you it is impossible to get it as thin as people usually see it in a wet state (the stuff is like working with butter). 🥲

I do disagree with him turning a nose up at slip casting cause guess how I make my porcelain pots 🙄🙄
