Few months ago, I pulled the crape myrtle out (the one is in the 4th picture) to perform carving on its trunk. It almost took me a month to finish the job!!! The reason it took me so long is that I had to find free time and it also was depended on my mood on that day!
I made 4 tunnels which are connecting to the back and the side of the trunk. As you can see, those tunnels can not be seen through and through from its front view.
In the end of the winter, I will start to train its branches. Will need lot of bending.

Thank you very much JudyB. This year will be my good year!Spring has come to you Bonhe, and it's lovely. Happy new year to you!
You are correct. In some years with much weathering and some rot and(currently at distance)this will look ok . However obvious today is man made. Patience always good. .
Thanks for your kind comment.I just found this thread. What excellent trees you have. I applaud your knowledge and all of your hard work. Good Show! and thank you so much for taking the extra time to share with all of us.
Ah, we are neighbor!Hi Bonhe, your trees are looking wonderful . How are your crabapple doing? I also live in Riverside. I just figured we didn't have enough cold days for them to flower consistently . Seeing that yours had flowers and fruit makes me think I should look for one.
Thank you Mr. E.Sorry to hear they are not well. Am I right to assume morning sun only during the summer ?
I have a yellow crabapple tree with 0.5 cm fruit's diameter. If it is the one you are looking for, I can send you a branch for grafting.I do love crabapples. I need to find a yellow fruiting one.
