My non traditional bonsai

This is a 5 week old canine bonsai. Subspecies: Germanus Shepherdus.
Rupert.
I picked him from a selection of 8. His mother rejected the litter last week. In one day he is already learning his name. He is the third German Shepherd I have the privilege of being his owner.
He picked which pot he wanted. I think an unglazed would have been the better choice but how many of our projects pick their own pot?View attachment 76013
Awwwwwwwwwwwww!!!

Awwwwwwwwwwwww!!!
I know,right?
I remember taking that picture.
Still have the cheap pot too. Never used it for anything and now that picture is framed and sits in the pot
,along with his first collar and all of his expired tags.

He's 9 years old now. Seems like just yesterday I got him.
Lost a toe to cancer on his front right paw. No biggie to him.
Other than that he's still in great shape.
He's been indispensable at keeping my wife company during the day while I'm at work. He entertains her and when I'm not home nobody comes through the door that he doesn't know.
He knows his mom isn't well and takes his task seriously. And he's so gentle with her. Every morning when he sees me to the door on my way out to work last thing I say is I love you and take care of your mom.
If you look closely you can see the missing toe. I call it his spooky toe or ghost toe. He growls at me when I do.
Hrs very self concious.Screenshot_20240721_072638_Gallery.jpgScreenshot_20240721_072638_Gallery.jpg

Good to see you around here Mike!

I lost Rupert on Monday.
We went for our ride and walk, got home and he just went and laid down.
Got him to go out but he could hardly stand.
I rushed him to his Vet. After they XRayed him and the Vet came in I could tell from the look on his face.
Rupert had a tumor on his spleen(unbeknownst to us)and it had ruptured. He wouldn't make it through the night. I had to call my wife to come say good bye to the Angel Boy.
It was by far the worst day of my life. Especially his last moments but there was no way I was going to leave him by himself,he never would leave me.
I miss my boy.
I love you Rupert, wait for me.

sorry to hear that man i wish you strength with the loss of your friend thats a horrible way to suddenly have to say goodbye like that..
rest in peace rupert.

So very sorry Mike. I know how much you loved Rupert and that picture of him as a puppy in the pot is the one I always think of when I think of him. My sincere condolences.

Thank you guys for the condolences.
A part of me went with him. But I still have a part of him with me.
He was my 3rd GSD and by far the one with the most personality. And love.
The way I look at is if they take a part of me with them but they leave a part of them with me I'll be more dog than human.
Just like the other 2 he will always be in my heart and I'll see or sense his spirit with me.

Sorry to see this, Mike.
I know you haven't been around lately, but seeing this thread brought back a lot of memories.
My boy Jack died in early January this year at age 12. He was doing his favorite thing to do, play in the snow freshly fallen snow, while the kids and I were sledding in the back yard. He walked out onto my neighbor's in-ground pool cover, which was covered in several inches of snow, the cover ripped and he fell into the near freezing water and drowned. I think he had been gone for about 30 mins when I realized he was missing. I followed his tracks straight to the pool and immediately I knew what happened. We cut the pool cover off and found him floating like an ice cube in the deep end.
It was a horrible day. The kids are still working through it emotionally. I just hope that he didn't struggle too long.
RIP Jack Daniel, Great Mountain Chinook. We will never forget you, buddy!IMAG0417.jpgIMAG0463.jpg20181124_230710.jpgIMAG1187.jpg20181123_060657_Burst01.jpg20181123_060724.jpg
