My European Beech

@Tieball
And yeah there are 2 decent roots under that crossover root, I exposed them this year hoping they would harden off
I let my roots continue to be buried. They appear, to me, to thicken better buried which in turn helps thicken the lower trunk. I’m sure there’s some science behind it...but it’s doing the job for me. I also seem to get more roots developing closer up to the trunk on those roots when buried...which really comes in handy when I want to shorten a fat root back toward the trunk. I uncover roots sometimes just to see what’s going on there...and then bury them back....it’s never caused a tree health problem....after I re-bury the roots I always water the area well right after the exploration.

@Tieball
i appreciate the advice... the organic ive been using in my mix has been compost, but i've read a lot of good things about pine bark and i'm always looking to learn something new.

Atlanta averages 82" of rain per year.
More than anywhere in the PNW.....not sure about the small island nation of England
Lol. I just told my girlfriend because that sounded loads and off the top of her head she just told me we get 63cm / 25” on average in our local catchment (she happened to read a report on it the other day for her job). It’s been drier than that for the last few years, but we are currently in our wettest period for a decade now, I thought it was less but the data says otherwise. More floods a coming!

People in the US generally regard the Pacific Northwest, Seattle region I guess, as the rainy part of the country.
I remember being surprised the statistics showing Atlanta as the leader.

Dang.
I must be referencing old data.
Thanks!

At least my surprise at what I read was warranted.

Averages. Atlanta does have a dry season and a wet season...much like the tropics I think. It’s quite possible that in a “wet“ month Atlanta could receive more rain than the PNW in that month.

I was wondering if what I'm recalling is an average of a shorter period of time too....oh well!
Brain broke.
