My bonsai reality

I think I have figured out how I will move my BCs. Except for a few most of them will be bare rooted. The root balls will be in garbage bags. The trees will all be piled into the trailers. The tubs will be emptied and stacked on the trailer as well. When I get there I will pot them all.

This way I can move all my BCs in one trip!

That’ll probably work fine. Might have some branch damage from stacking them, but thats about it. It’s sure gonna be a long repotting day when you get there though!
I thought it will be far easier than building temporary shelves on a rented trailer to stack trees and move a ton or two of wet soil that is relatively cheap at the destination. Tree will be in top soil until finally potted in bonsai pot any way.

That's alright. By that time I will be retired. I should have the time to repot. I might have to build an A frame crane for Batman, Robin, and those twin trunk BCs. The A frame is super easy to move, set up, and put away for later.

Best wishes on the move and transport of tree! 🌲 🌲🌲🌲🌲🌲

After dinner I took a slow walk to look at all my trees and had to laugh. Aside from some big specimen such as Franco and Batman, I got a dozen of weird looking projects with crazy bends, split top, split bottom, crazy carve, etc.. Like always, all the good ones are sold.

Anyone up to buying crazy projects? :D

I am kind of torn about them. Now that I have had them for a while, I find them to be slow growing. I am hanging on to them to get a bit more development.

The last time I listed some for sale, I wound up selling them at prices lower than nursery trees that are smaller. If that's the case I will keep them.

Today I parted with a bunch of favorite bonsai and fruit trees.
Gone are the Delonix regia, jujube, Tamarindus indica, some very nice BCs, guavas, gac, figs, etc.

More to come in upcoming days I guess. Sniff sniff..

My collection has grown quite a bit in the last month. The project on my friend's land resulted in the collection of some keepers BCs. I've become a bud gazer. I spent hours looking at those new buds.

After sitting down with my boss and discuss my timing for retirement, I went to the swamp and walked around today. The collection season is closed for me. Summer heat has turned color of many of the trees. As the weather cool down a bit I think they will green up. Another chapter of my life is drawing to a close.

In about six weeks I think my back porch will be empty of trees and my grill and smoker will regain their space.

Moving the trees up north will be a big task. I am looking forward to having time to work on them.

Congrats! Happy and jealous about your retirement. Are you coming up north next Spring?

We will welcome you with open arms up here in PA

You may as well accept your fate…. You’re gonna have to rent one of these for the move. Better find one with a lift gate too 🤣
I think when I am done, I should have the largest collection of bald cypress bonsai north of the Mason Dixon line.

I’ll hopefully have the BC from you at a workshop early next year so everyone can get a preview of your work! They’ll be eager to see your trees for sure

In the meantime, my wife and I are looking for our next house, still in the West Chester area. I’ll look for one with enough yard space to create my own swamp/wetland and plant some young BC as a source of material for us all.

So me and the wife just stayed the night in West Monroe on our way to see friends. I didn’t know that where you resided. We’re driving back home next weekend and if you happen to have any bc for sale I may be interested.

Well.
Yesterday in my family meeting, I brought up the topic of buying an enclosed trailer to move all my trees and then sell the trailer afterward. Then I cracked an evil smile. My lady smiled back then said: "You are thinking about keeping it afterward, aren't you?"
Thankfully my son in law is very accommodating :)
