This morning, I noticed several spots on a mug pine that appear to be cankers/wounds. They're on both the trunk and branches. It's in a boon mix (1/3 each of pumice, black lava rock, akadama) and was repotted 2 years ago. Fungal? Insect (I didn't see any)? Root rot?

Apologies if the photos aren't great. I can try to get better shots if need be.

Looks like physical damage to me?
Any chance you could have had mice chewing on it over the winter?

I haven't seen any evidence of mice (droppings, etc). The only thing I've seen remotely near the bonsai is a rabbit but everything is up on benches. Security camera hasn't captured any movement beyond said rabbit or a strong wind blowing things around (of course, a small rodent could escape notice).

They look like healing wounds, so whatever did it, it happened longer ago. Maybe a broomstick or something once fell into that branch crotch and damaged the bark (first pic). Now that it's healing, the bark fell off and you see damage underneath.
It looks entirely mechanical to me as well. So no reason to worry, this adds character.
