Mugo Nursery Hunt

You are absolutely correct, I could not do bonsai if it were not for the help and support of my wife, and yes; when it is necessary she helps me with the heavy work. That was an issue here, loading them into the car.
Heartland Nursery in KC has lots of Mugo, all sizes. They get them from Iseli in Oregon. Iseli has everything and very quality stuff.

I can't wait to watch em.

Thanks, Vance!

I haven't been able to watch them yet. My Internet is slow during prime time when everyone is watching NetFlicks. I'll watch them during non prime time.

Glad you were able to find some trees. Have you seen that video I posted of the shrubbery pruner they use to make each one a perfect little ball?

Yes I made mention of it in one of my videos.

Where did you post it?

I'm not now sure where I found the video, I believe it was on YourTube.

I posted it on one of the Smygo pine threads. It was a YouTube video. Go there and search for automatic shrub pruner. Or something like that.

It a machine they can push over a potted bush, or in the ground, and the mechanism circles the bush, and shears it into a perfect globe. In about 15 seconds. Then, on to the next bush.

It's the way they prune Mugos for the landscape industry.

I havent found it yet but I get the jist.

Of all the ways I could think of pruning a mugo I would never have expected some thing like that.

Just be careful that it does not get used as a zimmel.(sp?)

Just watched them finally. Those are nice. You state that those are rare for you.
Around here we never see those. The ones around here are all perfect little pincushion mounds of mugo.

Ive been to many different nurseries and looked at 100s of trees and we just dont see them.

However I do the same as you: Clean out the duff, look for the trunk.

They have mugos like that around here at lowes and home depot. Big wide bases with multipul thick trunks and really healthy foliage. most of the ones here are smaller but you can find the 3 and 4 Gallon ones st regular nurseries. I still got two of the one gallon mugos from lowes and one of them is even kinda starting to look like a bonsai lol. the big one I got from a regular tree nursery like the ones seen in these videos, unfortunately died. I guess I took too much foliage off at one time, eliminating all those big trunks down to just two. nice videos vance thanks for sharing your approach to finding material. It is an awesome thing for your wife to be so supportive!

If Mugos like those I have shown are available and you are interested, you ought to get a couple.
