This may be a silly question, but better safe than sorry. I am trying to figure out where one measures the second section of the trunk from on a moyogi style. For example, let's assume that the new leader will be grown from a shoot 4" above the soil. I cut the trunk on an angle so that my first branch is opposite the leader and is 3" above the soil. Is my first section of the trunk measured from the ground to the 3" first branch or to the 4" leader? Similarly, does the new leader begin at the point of the first branch or from the point where the leader emerges from the trunk at 4"?
Which one of these is my new leader?
