What is monkey pole?

Araucaria araucana maybe ("Monkey puzzle tree")?...
It's called "désespoir des singes" here ("Monkeys' dispair") because of the pointed leaves that are enough to discourage monkeys to climb it.
Of course, this is just "popular" belief...

Monkey jungle in Vero beach Florida had these when I was a kid, Monkeys chained to the top of a platform.
