So I just noticed my Mikawa Yatsubusa maple has these whitish/grayish areas of discoloration on a bunch of the leaves. Is this the natural color of dying leaves for this type of tree? Or is there something more sinister going on?

This is my first JM and have only had it a few months. I chose this one because of the potential for air laying, good movement, and it’s not grafted. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Might be a little powdery mildew, but nothing to worry about. It’s late in the season and those leaves are about done anyway.

Should I let them fall or should I go ahead and defoliate?

Leave them alone, you want to enjoy the nice fall colors, right?
