Mayhaw

While intertwined, they are still separable. Is there any value in keeping them together?

Separated.
4 large hardwood cuttings in water too.

Beside the honking triple trunk, yesterday I also collected 3 interesting ones. Smaller 1.5 - 2 inch trunk. They have lots of movement.

Sure looks like you've picked a winning species, and a whole bunch of nice trunks -- Looking forward to your progress as Mayhaw Boss!

Collected a twin trunk and a clump today. They may be interesting.

The twin trunk is actually formed by 2 fused trees at the base. Since the root base has fused solid, it will be kept a twin trunk. I think I may put a wedge in between and slowly force a spread between the two trunk.

The clump is truly a clump from multiple trees. A lot of them have fused together as well. This will be a sizeable clump.

Yes, but I don't think you need to obtain much of a spread between them...I guess it depends some on what angle the base looks best at.
Excited to see how these progress.

Went to the grove today and chopped 8 trees but did not dig them up. They will be collected in the spring.

Reluctantly collected one that was laid down by hurricanes yesterday. It is a good size one with 5” trunk at the base. It is potted in a 55 gal drum cut off where it will stay for a while.

Little ones collected and placed in the grow bed. They are doing well.

A very big one that was heavily damaged by hurricanes. It was nearly dead when collected 6 months ago. It is finally showing some sign of life. I hope this winter won’t kill it. It is so weak now for sure.

You have many of these, many with uninteresting trunks, I would certainly look at getting creative with placing 2 or 3 trunks together to make twin and triple trunks, its a way to make something more interesting and substantial out of poor material. like the one at the top of the thread for example I would have tied them closer together.

I was looking at this piece by Mauro, essentially its just two trunks that grew together, its not hard to replicate really, if you can find two trunks with lopsided roots, lopsided branches and try to have the trunks accentuate each other, im sure you could do it with what you have

I am open to all suggestions. Some of these are admittedly uninteresting now. I collected them simply to save them from being shredded. I am looking for ways to develop them for sure. Right now I am keeping them alive and healthy so they will survive whatever I'll do to them.

The one on the right is your Mayhaw. Probably the one with the most promising trunk. A little carving up top after apex selection later this year and you are all good.
