Mame pots on a mini pottery wheel

Made a few with porcelain clay today. A completely different world working with this clay. I still have to detail them, but really need to wait till they get leather hard as the clay is so soft. Looking forward to seeing how these look and feel after bisque.

When I am sitting back at my wheel, I have quite a bit of porcelain to go through. Nothing shows a glaze better but you better use a drip plate if you are using glazes that move.

What temperature do you bake them, and for how long?...
All my pots are fired to Cone 6 and become stoneware after the second firing. I have a few that will fire to Cone 10 this batch, also stoneware.

Firing time depends on the size of the kiln and how much space is being occupied within the kiln. Every kiln will be different, as we'll as the bisque and glaze firing. Time is irrelevant, what is important is the temperature the clay reaches to become mature.

Thanks.

I will search the web to what cone 6 and cone 10 correspond to, but thanks again.
In pottery there is a Cone chart that directly corresponds to a specific temperature. There is also actual pyramidal cones that we use that's designed to melt once it hits that temperature on the chart. That's how we can tell if a kiln is under or over fired past a target Cone. If you use 3 different cones...example Cone 5, Cone 6, Cone 7 cones. You can easily tell what the temperature is at that particular spot in the kiln. And while it may be hard to believe the kiln can have different temperatures inside. Usually the top half is a bit lower/colder than the bottom. The opposite can also happen if your elements on the bottom are failing.

Pottery is pretty cool, we have a certain amount of control of what the item can come out as.......but in the end it's always a surprise when you open the kiln lid.

Congrats on such a lofty endeavor. And the meticulous crafting of each and every pot. 👏
Thank you! I can't believe the pots are finally done. I actually did 104 pots....the extras are porcelain. Tomorrow is bisque....hopefully the kiln is not down.
