Mame Azalea

Cute! Would they just root from cutting in bonsai soil ?

Cute! Would they just root from cutting in bonsai soil ?

All my cuttings are rooted in Napa 8822. These particular cuttings were then moved into 2.5in pots with peat/sand/perlite mixture once they rooted to get them to grow more roots over the winter. Then bare rooted and potted back into monto clay in the mame pot.

These two are actually not related and have different colors and sized flowers. I'll post pics once they fully open. Not fully sure if the taller one will make it as the stem cracked in two different places while i was styling it hence why you see the cut paste.

I have several more getting ready to bloom. I might pot those up as well.

So now I have two that have two flowers each. I like them alot, but mame bonsai are a lot of work. I have to water them several times a day. I also have white and peach that might bloom, I'm trying to catch those at the right moment to pot up as well.

Let me know what you guys think.

Here's probably my last 2 mame azaleas for this year as I've run out of mame pots.....20 mame azaleas total. I've already cross polinated 5 of them, so now waiting for the seed pods to form.

These 2 are the ramapo cultivar. They produce the prettiest purple flowers I've ever seen on an azalea. They are naturally a dwarf azalea as well which will work well for mame bonsai as the leaves stay small. I planted a total of 45 cuttings today looking forward to growing these out.

Very nice! I lover my ramapo and agree on the purple. I have a cutting or two starting to take off. I agree w/mame being a PIA. I have a few and that's too many. Going to set them inside a larger pot this summer.

That's a nice one! You have more pics of it, the trunks looks good. Everything dealing with mame is more difficult.....the wiring, watering, substrate, pots. I water mine about 4 times daily, but they are addicting. I need to find some more mame pots. I have a bunch of JM and JBP I would like to pot up as well.

This was a large cutting I didn't think would take. It's technically mame but, not really bonsai yet. More of a science fair project;)

I think that has some real good potential after you let it grow out some. What's your plans with this one? I would start some wiring now before the branches harden up and set.

Well, I'll have to make some now as I really didn't expect it to live. Have to let it finish those 3 flowers just because. Then I'll remove the rest of the buds and see what I have for roots under there. Agreed on the wire for sure. Thanks

Oh and I have a few nice @sorce pots to choose from if it has some good roots growing.
