Flowers don't reduce in size? These look smaller than last year.

It is not necessarily true that flowers on Azalea don't reduce. They can, given that the blooms will only reduce a little at a time. And each time they blossom, they have a chance to be slightly smaller with the right conditions. I don't know how small these blooms can get, though.

Keeping the tree pot-bound might reduce the flowers, like it would the leaves.

Gee ya think? 3 months after repotting and the roots are tight again. As for the leaves., If they were much smaller they wouldn't be there at all.

I don't have any experience with flowers reducing in size. But I do know that the satsuki variety Waka-e-bisu displays what could be termed immature and mature flowers. The immature flowers are large, single with wavy edges, much like the Gumpo variety, while the mature are more refined double flowers. That is to say, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility for flowers to vary season to season.

Update ? 'Fraid so. Sold it along with most of my collection to my apprentice in Hilo. It didn't get enough attention and now maki, (dead). Probably unrealistic to expect anyone to coddle it the way I did. 😢
