Lost 6 Trees in this last storm

That sucks...sorry to hear it. We had a cold snap last month that dropped the temps super low and my heater in my little greenhouse tripped the breaker on my temp controller. I’m questioning a shohin boxwood but was lucky enough to catch it early enough to get everything into the garage relatively quickly.
Boxwood are practically impervious to cold, and are about as resilient a tree as you can find for bonsai. If it does not survive a cold snap it wasn't because of the cold snap.

I imagine you took photos for an insurance claim. Care to share those? Curious how long it took for clean up. Down trees can be a challenge at times. Then the loss of a structure. Sorry you had to deal with all that.

Tried to look at past posts by you...but you've not shared the trees you lost in the past.

Are you sure that the maples are all dead? They could have lost branches or got broken but is there any possibility for them to grow new branches?

So agree! I think of my own ryusen which was decimated by an artic cold winter. A landscape tree. I collected and rebuilt as a bonsai. Began with only a trunk...no branches.

I know...I've had this tree for years and every year I worry about it and every year its just fine...

That is a low blow!
I also noticed a bit of rot when pruning this winter from a section there which split. Cleaned it out. I didn't think to take an image of the scar this winter. But here is the tree. It has curling over on the wound. But so large. That I never see it healing. Scar is on the backside so you can't see it. But I would hate to lose this tree.I may apply wood hardener on it in the spring. Cool shari...if it doesn't weaken it.

I shared the images of the damage on Facebook. But no longer go there...

I was just caulating how many hours of growing season that leaves!
There's a reason the state of Wyoming is still known as Cowboy Country. Sure as heck isn't farming country, unless it's wind farms. LOL

My willow and tamarisk cuttings from last summer froze solid over the weekend. Won't know about my siberian elm until spring, but it is from Siberia afterall. My pinion, though, I won't know until at least May. They were both in pretty big pots, but we haven't had temperatures above freezing in more than a week.

We had an ususual ice storm and 18 degree temps here. It looks like it will be a whole day below freezing. I put all my trees either up against the south wall of the house or on the ground. I'm not familiar with what those temps do to the trees I have. They're mostly native trees, so they may do alright. Won't know for 2-3 weeks.

Wigerts in Florida turn their sprinklers on when its to be below freezing. Ice is a good insulator.

We also had an ice storm...hours of ice pellets.
