I grew quite a few pomegranates from seed. This is one of them. Had it potted in a tall pot for a while to grow nice long roots. Recently did a root over rock planting with it.

It has since dropped most of its leaves. I’ll be bringing it indoors and putting it under lights soon. Hopefully, that’ll perk it up. If not, this will be a very short progression thread.

They tolerate frost, or even freezing of the trunk, branches and leaves. Pomegranates are not so happy about the roots freezing solid. I routinely left mine out to about +25 F or roughly -4 C. Then I would move the leafless pomegranate to my well house, which stayed between 32 F and 40 F. (roughly 0C to +4C). They would begin to leaf out in late February even though they were in the well house, at which point I'd move them into my under lights set up. In spring they would go back out into the back yard.

One year I goofed, and it got left out through +17 F, and it died. Actually the top leafed out in spring, but then died a few weeks later, apparently the roots had been killed by the freeze. I need to get another one.

There are a few decent ones that pop up on fbook auctions. If I didn’t have my hands busy w other projects , I’d be all over those like a moth to the light. Maybe next year.

This one is indoors now and it has put out a few new green leaves. So, there are at least some signs of life. Hopefully, it will continue to recover.

I keep mine inside for the winter, they do fine and even bloom.

I kept all of my pomegranate seedlings indoors last winter and they did fine. I was only concerned about this one because I'd just done the root-over-rock repotting right before it started dropping leaves.

A few leaves got a bit of sunburn when I brought it outside, even though it’s in shade on the north side of the garage. Going to give it another week in the shade, then move to partial shade and, eventually, into full sun. It did well over winter indoors. I gave it a little bit of a trim today.

Uncovered a little of the rock to check on things today, then put wet sphagnum on parts that I want to stay moist and thicken up roots.

Did some branch selection to avoid inverse taper and also let more light into the interior branches.
