Started from high elevation collected seed obtained from Sheffield’s in 2022. Trimmed it and wired up a new leader today.

Good job!

Just a thought. Based upon 5 years experience with our growing out Coastal Redwoods, thinking this tree will caliber out much faster (given this is the goal) in premium potting soil with a decent pumice layer on bottom.

My main thought in the moment was just to make it more compact so it can come indoors under lights and fit in my limited overwintering space. Soil is just recycled APL with a bit of horticultural charcoal thrown in. I would like to eventually thicken up the trunk and build some taper, but I’m not in any hurry to do so (because of my limited indoor space for trees). I’ll keep that in mind for the next repotting though.
