Another gun driven tragedy unfolding this morning and another new low for Americans. I'm so sad and frustrated, as much by the loss of life as by the fact that I may becoming numb to it. Auto rifle fire from the upper floors of a hotel onto a bunch of country music enthusiasts enjoying themselves and having a good time. Fish in a barrel. 50+ dead and over 200 injured... surely the numbers will rise.
What is wrong with us?? Why does this continue to happen?? Why are we allowing this to be OK??? I'm not anti-gun... I'm not pro-gun. I'm not pro-Democrat and I'm not pro-Republican. I'm not ok with this. Something has got to change. I don't have the answers, but if something doesn't change, this is going to happen again... and again. That's just not acceptable. As a society... right and left have got to come together and not turn this into another polarizing political quagmire, and make reasonable changes for the good of all. God help us if we can't.

I agree, but the madman had an automatic rifle... something’s got to give or this will continue to happen again and again. How do we stop crap like this from continuing to happen?

I’m not blaming the gun

Access to a gun like this sure made it easy for the nut job to shoot and kill more people then ever before. Like I said, it bothers me that I/we seem to be growing numb to tragedies like this. I'm not out to take away your gun... but something has got to change.

Even if fully automatic weapons were banned those that want them for whatever reason would own them. No argument, just an observation. A tragedy indeed but it could happen anywhere not just here in the USA.

As sad as it is, humans are the problem. There have been sadistic people since the dawn of man. It's just more complicated now a days. I don't think there is a fix for this. No matter where you go there are things like this happening, even in Japan. I'm saddened by this and worried too that i'm becoming numb to it.

because its really hard to fix people.

short of a crystal ball or time travel - its nearly impossible to stop. whether its a gun, a bomb, chemical agents, etc - people will always find a new way to kill.

everyone wants a "fix" and politicians will scramble to take advantage of the situation to further their own agendas - but laws dont change hearts and minds.

This is the sad truth, the Sagamihara stabbings in japan last year, the guy stabbed and killed like 20ish people in there sleep with a knife. people just break inside and don't have anyone that cares to help them(or they don't listen) and they do something crazy stupid.

I agree.... but it's just too easy with automatic weapons. I'm not/never have been anti-gun, but those poor people didn't stand a chance last night. If the nut job didn't have those weapons, I believe all those dead and wounded people would still be ok. And all the politicians that use this to their own advantage can F themselves. I can't believe that we, the citizens of the greatest country the world has ever known, can be ok with this. Perhaps this is just a knee jerk reaction for me, but I'm very sad today... haven't felt like this since 9/11, really.

It's not difficult to modify a semi automatic to be fully auto.
Not that that's the problem.
No different that a homemade bomb....wanna outlaw everything at home depot and rocket engines from hobby shops?

It is impossible to avoid the fact that the US is stuck in a trap with gun culture. People avoid the fact that in many countries it is quite difficult to acquire a gun, never mind automatic. So people will continue to blame the individual, as they should, but avoid the true elephant in the room. Such a sad event, my heart goes out to all those touched by the violence.

No no...
Cmon...
I'm not trying to be a smart ass.
I'm serious.
Me, too. I don't have the answers, either. Everyone whose posted so far, excluding Vance, gave an explanation/excuse for why this happened but didn't offer up any potential "fixes". All I get from that is that you all are comfortable enough on this subject and are ok with the current state of affairs.

The problem is, where does it stop?
Like I said, unless we're all in chains.....

The genie left the bottle generations ago and can't ever be put back.
