If it were mine I would slip it into the ground n let it grow, your taking a gamble disturbing the roots after it leafed out.
Hadn't really thought about that. What kind of water are you using? I wonder if the chlorine or salt content is the issue.
Very helpful, thanks.Joer
Have a few J maples of different sizes. Leaf Wilt is always a battle with these. Established trees no big deal. Trees like you received from Bill requires a bit more due diligence. Keep well hydrated. Sun is a big factor in spring. I prefer 'molted sun/shade'. Problem with young trees is that one missed day could be catastrophic. Established trees will re-bud, young trees may not. I also received an Arakawa from Bill. Tree leaved out in his greenhouse or the box. A little early for my area. Kept it inside for a week and acclimated it to the outside. Outside now where it may have received too much early morning sun. New growth was perhaps 50% wilted. No worries with this tree ( Arakawa) as I have maybe close to a hundred new buds waiting to bring forth leaves. Yours looks to be well more leaved out. Look for new buds where the leaves wilted for evidence of a healthy tree. You want to re pot in better soil? I've slipped into bigger pots better soil while leaved out in spring without issue. BE GENTLE! Use care without disturbing the roots too much. I like to feed, others cite stress-- your choice. Either way keep well hydrated. Water is probably not an issue. If you can drink it so can the tree. Just my experience take what is relevant discard the rest.

It came with a little bit of the old soil and all he used was pottingsoil, at least it seemed. Figured it would be fine but it is more humid here as well.Just a quick note for future purchases. If you purchase potted leave it so and learn it for an entire season. If you purchase bare root or bagged be CERTAIN you have everything you need to pot it before it arrives at you home. Myself any new plants get treated the same. They all go in a shady area in quarantine from other plants for at least a month, sometimes 2. They do not get fertilizer until I am certain they are healthy.
There is a good 20-20-20 Powder out there to mix like Miracle Gro only a bit better for two reasons. First of all it does not foam up like crazy when you mix it and the little bit it does settles in a moment. Second it contains micronutrients. I get mine at Agway but I have seen it in the box stores as well. It comes in a white plastic container with a measure scoop - Jacks Professional 20-20-20 with Micros. Pretty certain a 1.5 pound container when I first tried it was 8.99 or so. NO, I do not work for them but I have tried MANY and that is by far the best I know of.

Not sure if we have a hydroponics store near here but If I find one I will check it out. I've heard alot about people using it.Just started using a new product to me called Rhizontonic. Graham Potter states using it on all his newly collected trees. I started using it in-conjunction with Great White Mcorrhizal fungi on most of my plants but definetly on my newly repotted and collected. I have a large juniper that was grabbed from sitting in the sun most of the day at a construction site and giving the tree these supplements weakly-weekly has seemed to help. It is starting to back bud like crazy. Just thought I would throw that out there if you care to try it out. I got both at the hydro store.
