cuttings look like they've taken well! how's the parent tree?

looking good. going to slip it into a bigger container this coming spring and let it grow another year, though i might just put it in the ground next year. this rootball is already solid, so it should be a good anchor.

now that it's had some time to sit, i went ahead and repotted it. i wasn't about to look at this boring tree for years on end while i take cuttings, so i decided to try using copper wire for the first time. interesting stuff. i think i like it.

Even with the dieback early on. Looks successfull! Got that nice bend in! I have a lot of 1 and 2 year kishu and itoigawa cuttings. I usually take cuttings before any work on the parent and then work them the following spring. I have a good cutting success rate really anytime of year as long as the parent is vigorous.

wired up these guys we took three years ago this month. next April we'll repot into a five or six incher to grow for two or three years. it was pretty damn hard bending these lower trunks, so id advise not waiting till year three to wire. wish i had #14 copper, but got it done with #12 and #16.
