Thought was time to make my first tree post to keep track of the development of my field collected Katsura.


This is how the tree looked like in autumn colours



I’ve collected this tree in late winter of 2023 around January.



Chopped the unwanted branches to end up with some nice moment in the trunk, plenty of sphagnum moss and akadama.



This was the first maple to burst in the spring with a crazy yellow leaf



That turned into a lovely mint Green later on (first lower branches popped out also)



I’ve let it grow untouched until beginning of june



Then it had the firs hair cut and some bending to form a new apex



It grew back fairly fast last pic was only 25 days after the first cut back.

And was left to grow for the rest of the season

Last job of the year was just a bit of winter pruning and protected for the winter.

Buds have started to open, starting to plan this years work, still undecided what I’m going to do about that straight part of the trunk at the top of the tree.

Looks like a wonderful start!

I am envious. It is one of my all time favorite trees. I love the color of the spring leaves.
BTW, your tree design is off to a great start. That small straight area will not be at all noticeable in a couple years.

Mine also, one of the most incredible yellow and red as it starts pushing that I’ve seen

Some emergency work had to be done to this tree after such a wet summer and winter we had over here, used the opportunity to improve the planting angle.

Made a new base out of insulation boards and cement to hide the training pot.

Thank you, it’s a bit overgrown but I’ll let it grow now till end of season.
