KateM's ROR 2023-2026 contest.

Spring update:
Took it out of the pot, took foil off.
Roots are holding on to the rock, but still are very thin.
Combed out and trimmed the roots beyond the rock. Added some more sphagnum and rewrapped in foil. Trimmed some branches and potted up again with the slight angle change to reflect how the rock naturally sits flat.

Brown leaves are withter burn. There is plenty of tiny green leaves coming out.20250314_171924.jpg

Fall update. Doing well I think. Root seems to be gripping the rock.

Spring update:
This was held to the rock by grafting tape and is a mess. The thickest root is well molded to the rock, but the other roots grew out in between the tape and are not gripping the rock.
Trimmed grow away roots. Trimmed long canes and dead stubs. Tied to the rock again, added sphagnum and wrapped in foil.
Potted up again.20250314_180028.jpg20250314_180122.jpg20250314_180524.jpg20250314_182545.jpg

Apring 2025 update.
This one I'd doing okay. I think chicken grit was getting a bit too got in the sun. The trunk is not wiggly and roots seem to be gripping.View attachment 574353View attachment 574354
Repotted. Holding on to the rock. There is one side with much less roots. Added some sphagnum, rewrapped in foil, got rid of chicken grit, trimmed roots and potted back. Spayed for scale.

Those bright yellow roots on mulberries are a bit of a turnoff. Are we allowed to paint them if they don't darken after air exposure? 😁
