JWP Catherine Elizabeth project

Yeah of course I got it at starkie bros. Nursery.

And you are suggesting I go further on the bends in the main branches? There’s really only two smaller branches that are pretty straight and they will eventually be cut I’m just growing them out to even out trunk thickness.

After buying the tree I ended up finding all of your threads on the cultivar, and I have to say they were in the back of my mind the whole time working on it lol. I’m hoping to defy the odds with this one.
I hope so too. I'm thinking it must be entirely location/weather related.
IIRC I've lost 4 of them so far, and that's enough for me to tighten my wallet.

That’s fair they definitely weren’t giving them away lol. Did you repot yours or were they in the nursery soil their whole lives?

Sorry, I missed the fact that you already wired it

Working foliage 1st minimally on 2 i had no idea
when the roots were last worked, remained in nursery soil for the short life that followed.
I bought none already in bonsai mix and worked both 3-4yr old up to 8 yr old.

I must recant on the Boon mix statement after
reading through this short thread.
At least you can see to what extent the roots were worked, leaving original soil in the crown and then some.
Thank you for the intel. Hopefully the first shaping wasn’t to aggressive. Sap loss was minimal as all the cuts were sealed immediately. If growth is so so this year I will probably wait another full year before I attempt to repot. Hopefully in a different climate they respond better.
