Hello all, I am very excited to be documenting my bonsai journey. I have just received my first two trees. One a Dwarf Kingville Boxwood from Brussels In northern mississippi, the other a juniper procumbens nana from Bonsai boy in NY. They seem too look great with moist soil upon receiving.
My immediate actions/concerns are the health of the trees.
The boxwood soil is pulling a ph between 7.4-8.5 upon testing with a monitor. From research 6-7.5 is ideal. Should I be concerned with the 8.5 ph that I pulled.
The soil is coarse with a temp of around 46-50F. My climate in Tennessee has a soil temp in my yard of 46 degrees. Currently I felt comfortable with the tree being climatized from its origin and elected to place outside right away.
The juniper has a ph of close to or around 5 should I be concerned with this low ph as I have no guidance on proper ph on a juniper.
I am hesitant to repot either this year as they were recently stressed from climate changes is that a valid concern?
The temps will drop next week down to 12 degrees from the 45 degrees it is today. I am concerned with soils freezing. Is it okay to store both outside in a cold box I bought monitoring soil temps bringing into an unheated gerage if needed or should I bring inside if 12 degrees outside.
I’m located in Nashville hardiness zone 7b
