First attempt at wiring so go easy on me please Got this juniper from a local nursery. Any tips & constructive criticism is very welcome!
Cheers,
Aaron
Your shaping is crap. Big gentle arcs don't catch the eye. I'd remove the silver side-branch wires completely and twist the shit out of your main branches. Make them interesting and compacted. Looks like your big cascading branch is over a foot long. Twist and bend it to 1/3 of that length. Crunch down your top branch, too. Then reapply wire to your side branches where needed to build out your pads.
Be bold. Junipers are tough and any minor damage you cause will heal over time and create interest.
Im not an expert but im gonna wait till fall to wire my Junipers for semi-cascade and cascade, but, doing some reading, might wanna put some bends going left, right, down to create dynamic look as it is going down.
@Ayayron123 Please put your location on your profile so we can give you the best advice based on your area.
Much of bonsai is dependent on your local conditions.
Its a bit early to be wiring. It doesnt look like you did much bending yet so youre probably ok but doing severe bending in the middle of summer is dangerous because you can disrupt the water flow in the branch during the heat of the summer where it is more critical than cooler times of the year.
Again, based on where you are, I would wait until October to do any bending of those branches. At that time, the weather is cooler and the water demands on the foliage from the roots are less
Hi guys,
Thanks for the comments really helped me out! As suggested I’ve left the bending of the main trunk until later in the year but I’ve started building the pads and giving the tree more shape. Hopefully this is an improvement but not sure.
