Is this too late to save?? I may have gone like a day too long or two without water? I have it in a shady spot in my backyard now and I’ve been misting the area for humidity and watered it this morning.
Juniper is starting to dry out and brown.

Sadly, it is already dead, and it died a while ago. Conifers take a while to completely dry out after their roots die. The roots most commonly die from over-watering, over-fertilizing, or under-watering, but the impact on the tree and the appearance will be the same.

Awww man that really sucks was a birthday present. First one I’ve had that’s wasn’t substrate but soil so my watering was probably not right. I’m used to just being able to water as much as I want and not over watering because I use course substrate.

Don't worry about it - happens to us all. The pot you were using didn't really have a large soil volume, and Rancho Cucamonga, in the summer, with the wind coming out of the desert... forget about it 
Keep the pot, and you can replace the juniper with something else like a Chinese elm. Or simply get a new juniper from a nursery, and repot it into your birthday pot in the spring. Then you will know the soil is good. No one will be the wiser
