Japanese Styrax Limp Foliage

My soil is made of equal parts bark, Turface, and stone, filtered.

Sounds like watering is the issue so I should be good to go.

Thanks all.
I think that is a dry soil mixture more suitable for pines.

Stone absorbs no water, turface depending on the hardness also doesn’t have a high water retention (and release) and bark needs to decompose a bit depending on the quality.

What do you suggest?

Did soaking the tree for several hours yield foliage that's still turgid after the heat of the day passed?

Actually just checked. The leaves are back to normal. It's still early, but so far it is in direct sunlight, which it is till around 4 PM. I have been wate3ring around 5PM. So perhaps it dries during the afternoon.

So it seems to be either not enough water, or too much sun.
Thats what I figured. Youve got a giant little tree. Full sun is no problem for this tree (with water). But apparently it'll also take shade, I have a huge one out front. Kinda messy, Years ago I took some sprouts and planted me a forest. You seem to have control over yours. I'm always a little confused over what to do. You wouldn't believe what I pruned off? I cant semm to round up those recent pictures. This was Iast year. I have mine in a richer mixture in full sun (not the hottest place)? Other comenters say it wants some shade? It'd need to be in a proper bonsai soil mix otherwise it would suck its pot dry in just a few hours.

From 2 years ago. See what I'm dealing with. Its an impossible forest. Best stategy I'd figure is to douse it in the morning before any hot day.
