Japanese Maple cascade

Hey all,
Just making this thread to document the progression of my yard-adori red Japanese maple into a hopeful cascade.

Collected from my parent's yard in March of 2021 and attached photos will show its original shape and styling. It was repotted and wired today into a tall terracotta cylinder that I drilled some holes into for gui wires and tie-downs.

Any recommendations or suggestions would be wonderful and highly appreciated as this is my first tree in this style.

Thanks and can't wait to update this in the seasons to come.

Neat Idea!

This project will represent an interesting take on the story of cascading trees.

Because naturally, these trees don't behave (on cliff/hill/riverbank/mountain terrain NORMALLY associated with higher elevation natural cascades)in this way, VERY OFTEN (that I'VE personally seen) Circinatum and Palmatum I have seen "drop down" in "the wild/images OF the wild " never quite warranted the title of cascading.

I do believe it
is DEFINITELY doable/feasible, and was not trying to suggest the opposite. I've seen a couple a well-done Acer Cascades.

I can't wait to see where it goes.

@HorseloverFat unfortunately the long tip did not survive and died off past the guy wire. That said I still love where the branches are currently placed and I am hopeful for the future.

The brown on the leaves was from an amateurish fertilizer burn.

Oh that still has the "bones" for what you'll need. (that rest would've been 'cannon fodder' for creating taper)

Just make sure it's healthy before you do any work (especially seeing as it's recovering from "x"). I always stress this point... we don't want to prune weak (this is not a dig at you.. I currently have "weak" trees that will not be pruned/wired/repotted/defoliated until they are healthier) trees.

Definitely be hopeful!

But be carefully deliberate and patient as well!



(that last one would've saved me a TON of "x" if I'd grasped the concept sooner)
