Four days ago, I opened a new bag of yamagoke in order to dye it with black ink. The weather turned rainy, so I brought the trays of wet yamagoke into the house to get it to dry faster. I didn't wear a mask during any of this, but did when I was grinding it up. Now I have a slight fever and bad dry cough. Is it possible I had a reaction to the wet moss?

it seems possible if the process is making a lot of particulate and you're not using any proper ventilation. and also if you're inhaling the black dye that can't be good.

Hmm… dunno.

We use and mix up yamagoke moss frequently for years now. Use a mask about 95% of the time. Haven’t got an infection yet.

Dried Yamagoke does irritate my sinuses when mixed without a mask. Similar to as Sphagnum moss.

All dried mosses can cause respiratory issues for sure, so please wear a mask when wetting and using any mosses.

Sphagnum moss is known to carry sporotrichosis fungus, which enters breaks in the skin and causes ulcerous skin lesions.

Hope you get better quick!

I highly doubt you have anything serious. Legionaries disease. Uh probably not. Sporotrichosis uh uh. That takes a while with constant repeated exposure. One time ain’t gonna do it

You could allergic to something in the moss or soil. Or have a coincidental cold or something.

Why are you dying yamagoke?
