If using benches/tables, what are some good things to plant *under* them?

I got two bigger trees and recovering tree's below my benches nice shade spot :)

I'm thinking about putting a collection pan that drains into a 5 gal bucket. Why not use the runoff to water my flower beds and landscape shrubs.
If that wouldn't be so visually-arresting I'd rig it up in a second!!! I love saving water as much as I can (even collect the HVAC run-off in a bucket!) but having collection run-offs under my benches would just kill the aesthetic I'm going for.. I think I'm just going to keep it at grasses around the bases/feet of the benches and nothing else, very simple setup :)

P.S. I been keeping pots closer to where you can touch them everyday.

More touch....
More patina.

Come home from work with dirty hands.
Caress and pet the pots.

No bend over.

Weird fetish. :p

Too bad they don't make mini land mines. Maybe with the charge comparable to an M80.
Just large enough to blow up a squirrel.

Crystal has been storing the bulbs in bulb pots that need to be out for the Winter in dirt. She gets them from Breck's so they tend to be a bit pricey. I found using the molemax around the parameter gives them a fit but they can still manage to get into a pot sometimes. Last Winter I experimented with the molemax the same way and sprayed the soli in the pots with Liquid Fence - it worked so it is our new Fall routine.

Do you eat squirrel?

I have in the past when I actively hunted. Had a great dog that would sit by me all day retrieving them :) 12 greys make a good size stew, reds takes 25 ish. The brains in scrambled eggs taste like beef ;)

I use a gallon a year now. It works. But don't you think seeing a puff of snow ,smoke, dirt and rodent fur would be fun?
Maybe even a blast?
Thanks again on the molemax lead too.
On another note. We used to have moles in the yard, bad. I can't molemax the whole yard so I just dealt with it.
The last 2 years though not hardly a molehill. At first I thought that maybe this molemax is really good. Only need to put it down in a corner of the yard and somehow they could smell it.
Then it hit me. I got that damn dog a little over 2 years ago.
Him and I are out there playing and training every free moment I have. The constant vibration of Rupert running is keeping them away.
So now he's a rodent deterrent too!

Planting things like garlic with deter pests also...Garlic doesn't help in winter though obv. But some cold hardy herb plants might help.

My 14" wide x 8 ft. long benches run approx. east-west, so the area below them gets pretty good sun all day. Below them, I've planted a few trees that need to grow out for a couple of years. They seem to love the fertilizer-rich run-off water and are doing fine. I may put a small shelf below the benches to put sun-sensitive and newly potted trees.
